Hush

A hush gathers around the city now. A tenseness that’s palpable. People nervously smile and speak as if nothing is wrong. Whispers of buying supplies to stay indoors. Gentle goodbyes of ‘stay safe’. No one can quite understand how they got to this moment. No one just yet believes that people have actually gone feral. There’s disbelief flying through the streets like so much garbage. Some can’t quite believe, some deny, and some sit, staring with eyes wide at the horror unfolding. And yet many others broil and lather and hungrily see their chance. They’ll feast on human flesh, spittle flying as they turn to blame the other.

Hatred and death creep into the houses, filling eyes and ears, blinding, infusing. Soon the chant will arise, the hate call, the call for death. They’ll rally to the devil's lies. Wrong will become right. Up will go down. Lies shall be truth and the people will only know truth again when their yells have turned to screams.
