I create my own system

Why do you close your eyes?

Why do you choose not to hear?

I don’t understand why you fail to see us. Why you fail to see the hate.

What does your mind choose to see instead? Why does it cling to the past with both hands? A past that is filled with brutality. Does it make you feel safe because you were safe then? Does it make you feel safe to continue a system that has always put you first?

How I crave a system like that. How I crave a system that puts us all first. That protects us. And I’m surrounded by a system that was broken from the start.

Don’t tell me what my choices are. I’m going to make my own choices. Don’t tell me this is the only way. I’m going to make my own way. And if you won’t listen, if you won’t see, then I’m here to take it all away and make it new. Make it the way it should have been. If you’re afraid? Don’t be. Even after you wouldn’t help us, we’ll still take care of you.

Because the system I choose over the one we’ve got won’t care that you didn’t hear. Won’t care that you turned and faced away. But it sure as hell will no longer accept another beating, another death, or another turned face when someone asks for help.
